Cartier Tank Must Small WSTA0110 Strap Guide – Correct 16 mm Size & Best Straps

WSTA0110 strap

Read Cartier's own description of the WSTA0110 closely and one word stands out: the strap is grained calfskin.

Not alligator. Calfskin. On every gold Tank Louis, every diamond Tank and most of the rest of the catalogue, Cartier fits exotic leather. On the small steel Tank Must it fits a grained calf strap with a steel ardillon buckle — durable, matte, unfussy, and entirely appropriate for what the Must line is meant to be: the Cartier you actually wear rather than the one you keep for occasions.

It also means something useful for you. On almost every other Cartier, buying a strap is maintenance — you are replacing worn alligator with fresh alligator. On this one it is the cheapest genuine upgrade available to the watch.

The reference itself: 29.5 × 22 mm steel case, 6.6 mm thin, high-autonomy quartz, silvered dial with black Roman numerals and blued-steel sword hands, beaded crown set with a cabochon spinel.

Lug Width: the WSTA0110 takes a 16 mm strap

On the product page, select the 16 mm option.

The small Tank Must case measures 29.5 × 22 mm and uses a 16 mm strap. That figure appears in exact-reference sizing tables for the small Tank case, in the charts of independent strap makers who list the Tank Small at 16 mm, and it is the size we stock for the model.

Tank Must model Case Strap
Small (WSTA0110) 29.5 × 22 mm 16 mm
Large 33.7 × 25.5 mm 19 mm
Extra Large Larger case 23 mm

Two fitting notes:

  • Standard spring bars. Cartier describes the factory strap as interchangeable, and it is — a spring bar tool or our installation tool is all this takes, and the swap is a two-minute job.
  • Silver buckle. Our Tank straps are ordered with a buckle finish. The factory buckle here is a steel ardillon, so silver is the match; gold and rose gold belong on the gold Tanks.

Crocodile fits this size. It does not fit the large one.

This is the part that makes the small Tank Must more interesting to strap than its bigger sibling, and almost nobody knows it.

Our Tank crocodile straps are cut in 14, 15, 16 and 17 mm. A small Tank Must is 16 mm, so it can have them. A large Tank Must is 19 mm, so it cannot.

That matters because of what this watch left the boutique on. Going from grained calfskin to crocodile is not a lateral move to a different colour — it is a change of material, and it is visible from across a room. The case, the dial and the hands are identical to the ones on a Tank costing several times as much; the strap is the main thing separating them.

There is a scale argument too. At 22 mm across, the case is small enough that colour has limited room to make a statement, but texture reads clearly right at the edge of the case where the eye already is. If small Tanks in photographs look more expensive than yours, it is usually the strap material, not the strap colour.

The four best straps for the WSTA0110

1. Grained black leather — the exact like-for-like

Grained Leather Strap for Cartier Tank

If you want the watch to look precisely as it did new, this is the strap: same colour, same grained finish, same matte character as the calfskin Cartier fits. A grained strap that has creased at the lugs and gone shiny where it meets the wrist is the single thing that ages this watch, and a fresh one resets it completely.

It is also the most practical of the four. Grained leather hides marks better than smooth, handles daily wear without looking tired, and never asks you to be careful with it — which is the whole point of a Tank Must.

2. Black crocodile — the same watch, one class up

Keep the colour, change the material. This is the upgrade the small Tank Must was always eligible for and rarely gets: at 16 mm the scales are fine and tightly spaced, which suits a delicate rectangular case perfectly, and the difference between grained calf and crocodile at the lug end is immediately obvious.

Nothing else you can buy for this watch changes how expensive it looks for so little. If you take one recommendation from this guide, take this one.

3. Brown leather — the warm, everyday alternative

Steel and a silvered dial can read cold, and brown is the simplest correction. It warms the whole watch, moves it away from the office and towards the weekend, and pairs comfortably with gold jewellery if you wear any — which matters on a size that usually shares a wrist with other things. The least formal option here and, for a lot of owners, the one that ends up living on the watch.

4. Green leather — the one that makes it yours

Green Leather Strap for Cartier Tank

The Tank Must is one of the most widely owned watches Cartier makes, and that is the argument for this strap. Green against steel and a silvered dial has become one of the most requested combinations we sell, and on a small rectangular case the colour lands as a detail rather than a statement. The cheapest way to make a very common watch look like a deliberate choice.

Every colour and width is in the Cartier Tank, Tank Louis, Américaine, Solo and Must strap collection.

The case is the same. The strap is what people see.

A small Tank Must shares its case, dial and hands with Tanks costing several times more. What separates them, visually, is mostly what is wrapped around the wrist — which makes this the best-value strap purchase in the entire Cartier range.

Helvetus straps are cut for the Tank case in every width from 14 mm to 25 mm, slim enough for a 6.6 mm case, and shaped so the leather meets the brancards without the gap a generic strap always leaves.
