Tudor Heritage Advisor 79620 Strap Guide – 22mm Fit & Best Straps

Tudor Heritage Advisor 79620 Strap Guide – 22mm Fit & Best Straps - Helvetus

There is exactly one watch in the Tudor catalogue where the strap you choose affects how the watch works, not just how it looks.

This is it. The Heritage Advisor is a mechanical alarm watch, and an alarm watch makes its noise by striking the case. Which means everything attached to that case — including your strap — is part of the instrument. For the full range, see our straps for Tudor.

Strap size and fit guide

Your Tudor Heritage Advisor (Ref. 79620) has a 42mm case and a 22mm lug width, on standard spring bars, with a 49mm lug-to-lug.

That applies across all the dial variants — the silver 79620T, the black 79620TN and the cognac 79620TC all share the same case.

The Advisor is a discontinued reference and is not a named option in our Tudor range, so order 22mm from any of our universal ranges. There is no fitting quirk on this watch: ordinary spring bars, ordinary 22mm, no proprietary end links.

Checklist: 42mm case, 22mm lugs, standard spring bars.

Why the case is titanium — and why that changes your strap

Here is the detail that makes this watch different from everything else Tudor makes.

The Heritage Advisor's central case and case back are grade 5 titanium, with only the bezel in polished steel. Tudor is a steel brand; the only other watch they build in titanium is the Pelagos, where it is about weight and corrosion.

Here it is about sound. Tudor chose titanium specifically for the acoustic quality of the alarm. The alarm mechanism strikes, the case back resonates, and the material it is made from determines what you hear. That is not marketing gloss — it is why the most expensive part of this watch is made from something the rest of the range is not.

It also has form. Tudor's 1969 Advisor used a two-piece case back that created a chamber to amplify the sound. Acoustic case engineering has been part of this model line for over fifty years.

So the case back is a speaker, and it is the surface pressed against your wrist. Three practical consequences follow, and they are the whole strap brief:

Keep the weight down. Tudor built this case out of titanium to keep mass low and let it ring. A heavy bracelet works against the engineering you paid for.

Avoid heavy padding under the case. A thick, over-padded strap sits between the case back and your wrist and does what padding does — it absorbs. A flat, fine strap does not.

Do not strap it down hard. An alarm you can barely hear is usually an alarm clamped tight against skin. A strap that lets the watch sit properly rather than being cinched is doing the acoustics a favour, which is another argument for something supple rather than stiff.

The other reason: those lugs

The Advisor's lugs are unusual and every reviewer who has handled one says the same thing — they are long, thin, and strongly curved down toward the wrist. It is the detail that gives the watch its slightly rakish, older-Tudor look.

It also has a practical consequence: a stiff strap cannot follow that curve. It will sit proud at the lug and leave a visible gap under the case, which on a 49mm lug-to-lug is exactly where you do not want daylight. A supple strap wraps immediately and the watch sits flat.

Between the acoustics and the lug shape, the brief is the same from both directions: light, flat and supple. That rules out the obvious dress-watch instinct of a thick padded strap, and it makes a couple of less obvious options genuinely correct.

One more thing worth knowing: every Advisor came with a second strap in the box, whether you bought it on the bracelet or on leather. Tudor expected this watch to be rotated.

The best straps for the Heritage Advisor

Fine alligator — the factory look, and the right construction. The Advisor was sold on black alligator, and it remains the pairing the watch was designed around: a polished steel bezel and a silver, black or cognac dial is dress-watch territory, and alligator is what belongs there. Crucially, a fine flat alligator is thin — it gives you the formality without putting a cushion between the case back and your wrist. If you want one strap that looks like the watch came that way, this is it. Consider a pin buckle rather than a deployant: less hardware, less mass, and the alarm will thank you. Alligator Leather Watch Straps — choose 22mm

Curved FKM rubber — the one that solves both problems at once. This is the unexpected pick and the most useful. Rubber is the lightest thing you can put on this watch, it is the most supple so it follows those strongly curved lugs without a gap, and it adds essentially nothing under the case back. The Advisor is rated to 100m and has no screw-down crowns to worry about, so there is nothing precious about it. On a titanium case built for lightness, a rubber strap is the option most in keeping with what Tudor actually engineered. Our curved range covers 22mm. Curved FKM Rubber Straps — 18mm to 22mm

Smooth leather in brown or cognac — for the warm dials. If yours is the cognac or brown-dial version, this is the natural answer: a mid-brown smooth calf picks up the dial without matching it exactly, and smooth leather is thinner and more flexible than a grained or padded strap, which suits the lug curve. It is also the most versatile of the four — the Advisor is a dress watch with three crowns and a pusher, which is a slightly unusual thing to own, and brown leather makes it read as characterful rather than complicated. Leather Watch Straps — choose 22mm

Suede — soft, matte, and unexpectedly right. Suede is thin, light and completely unpadded, which ticks every box the acoustics ask for. Visually it does something the others do not: the Advisor has a highly polished bezel and case band, and a matte strap gives the eye somewhere to rest rather than reflecting light back at it. Grey or dark brown, and it works especially well with the silver dial. The least likely strap anyone else will have on theirs. Suede Leather Watch Straps — choose 22mm

FAQ

What lug width is the Tudor Heritage Advisor? 22mm, on a 42mm case with a 49mm lug-to-lug. The same across the silver, black and cognac dial versions.

Does the strap really affect the alarm? The alarm works by striking the case, and the case back is the surface that resonates — which is why Tudor made it from titanium rather than steel. A lighter, flatter, less padded strap interferes with that less than a heavy bracelet or a thick cushioned strap does.

Why is the case titanium when the rest of Tudor is steel? For the alarm's sound quality. The Pelagos is the only other titanium Tudor, and there the reason is weight and corrosion resistance rather than acoustics.

Can I wear the Advisor on rubber? Yes, and it suits it better than you would expect. It is rated to 100m, has no screw-down crowns, and rubber is the lightest and most supple option — which is exactly what the case shape and the alarm both want.

Why do stiff straps look wrong on it? The lugs are long, thin and strongly curved toward the wrist. A rigid strap cannot follow that curve and leaves a gap under the case; a supple one wraps straight away.

Final thoughts

The Heritage Advisor is the most interesting watch Tudor has made in the modern era and the one fewest people know about — a mechanical alarm, an in-house module built before the MT calibres existed, and a titanium case chosen for how it sounds rather than how it weighs.

It is also the only watch where a strap is not purely cosmetic. Get it light, flat and supple and you get a better-sounding alarm and a better-sitting watch.
