The Royal Oak Offshore 44 is the biggest, loudest interpretation of the Royal Oak idea — the octagonal bezel and eight hexagonal screws, blown up and armoured. It's a watch that was designed to be worn hard, and it's the AP most likely to end up on rubber rather than the bracelet it left the boutique on.
Which raises the question every Offshore owner eventually asks, usually after ordering the wrong strap once: what actually fits it?
The 44 Takes 30 mm. The 42 Takes 28 mm.
That's the whole thing, and it catches people out constantly.
| Your Offshore | Strap width at the case |
|---|---|
| Royal Oak Offshore 42 mm | 28 mm |
| Royal Oak Offshore 44 mm | 30 mm |
The two watches look near-identical in a photograph — same bezel, same screws, same architecture — and they're sold side by side. But a 28 mm strap in a 44 mm case leaves a millimetre of daylight at each side, and a 30 mm strap will not go into a 42 at all. We're not alone in saying so: specialist makers state outright that their 44 mm Offshore straps are not compatible with 42 mm models, and sell entirely separate parts for each.
So the rule on an Offshore is simple: buy by case size, and check the case size rather than assuming. If you're not certain which one you own, the diameter is usually on the paperwork or easy to measure across the bezel — or send us a message and we'll confirm before you order.
Why Width Alone Isn't the Full Story
The Offshore is an integrated case. There are no conventional lugs, so the strap doesn't just have to measure 30 mm — its end has to be cut to the shape of the case opening and continue the line of the case as it leaves it. A strap that's the right width but the wrong shape leaves a wedge-shaped gap at each side, and that gap is the most visible failure in strap fitting. It's why a generic 30 mm strap never looks right on this watch no matter how good the rubber is.
Our Offshore 44 straps are cut for this case specifically — 30 mm at the case, 107 mm + 65 mm in length, in allergy-free premium rubber with a lifetime warranty.
The Best Straps for the Royal Oak Offshore 44
The Offshore is already making a statement, so there are two honest strategies: let the watch be the loud thing and keep the strap quiet, or lean in deliberately. Both work here — this is one of the few watches where a bold strap isn't a mistake.
1. Black Rubber – The One That Always Works
A black rubber strap is the Offshore's natural state. Most 44s wear black or dark dials with black ceramic or rubber-clad bezels, and black lets the case architecture — the octagon, the screws, the layering — be the only thing your eye does. It's the most useful strap you can own for this watch and the right first purchase.
2. Navy Blue Rubber – The Tonal Choice
Blue is the Offshore's second signature. On a blue-dial reference, navy keeps the whole watch reading as one designed object rather than a blue dial perched on an unrelated band. It's also the most wearable colour after black — navy behaves almost like a neutral, but it stops the watch looking severe. You'll find it in the Offshore 44 collection.
3. Yellow Rubber – The Deliberate One
Here's the pick most people won't consider and some will love. The Offshore has always been the AP where colour is allowed — the line exists because someone decided a Royal Oak could be aggressive — and a yellow rubber strap is the version of that argument you can buy for a fraction of a boutique strap. On a black-dial 44 it's genuinely striking. It is not a strap for every day, which is exactly the point of owning more than one.
The collection carries further colours beyond these three — worth a look if you want a rotation rather than a replacement.
Buckle and Fitting
Each strap ships with your chosen buckle and spring bars included, and the matching installation tool makes the swap clean on a case with this much finished surface to protect. One note specific to this family: if you own the Offshore Diver, check your buckle before ordering anything — it ships with a larger factory buckle than the rest of the Offshore range, so buckle carry-over doesn't work the same way there.
Why Offshore Owners Choose Helvetus
Helvetus is one of the leading names in aftermarket straps for luxury watches, and the Offshore is exactly the case where model-specific matters: two watches, two millimetres apart, that a generic strap cannot serve. There's also a practical argument for rubber on a watch like this — the strap takes the daily wear instead of a bracelet that's expensive and awkward to replace, and it goes back in the box unchanged.
Every rubber strap carries a lifetime warranty, shipping is free worldwide, and there are no import costs on any order — part of why more than 50,000 customers have trusted us with their watches.
